Cambridge Gin (750 ml)

Cambridge Gin, Spring – Summer 2013, is the first in a series of seasonal blends from The Cambridge Distillery, a nano-distillery here in the university town of Cambridge.

You probably know us better for our Tailored Gin, but by popular demand we have created (in extremely limited volumes) a showcase gin which is available off the shelf.

We developed the idea of a seasonal blend whilst walking our Labrador in the fields of Cambridgeshire (Darcy now graces the label of every bottle in recognition of her contribution). Seeing seasons gradually come and go, bearing blossoms, fruits, herbs and spices was the inspiration behind the blend.

We collected various botanicals, either grown in our garden or foraged from fields and hedgerows, between New Year’s Day and the Summer Solstice, before distilling them at low temperatures under vacuum. In doing so, we discovered that we had effectively distilled the very essence of the season.

These distillates have been blended into a strictly limited run of just 50 litres, bottled on the 22nd of July (coincidentally the day the Prince George of Cambridge was born), now available exclusively in Selfridges.

The blend includes: Elderflower, Rose Petals, Mint, Thyme, Rosemary, Cucumber and Earl Grey – not strictly from Cambridge, but he studied here at Trinity, so we’re claiming him as a Cambridge botanical!

The Spring – Summer 2013 Cambridge Gin is not only representative of the season, but also meant to be enjoyed within the season. As such, we’ve created a light, fresh, zesty gin, ideal for drinking long, over ice and with tonic, on those endless summer evenings. Each year’s blend will be different, reflecting the different conditions in the gardens and fields surrounding us each year.

And we’ve not forgotten our tradition of looking after our left-handed friends either. Since we won’t have the opportunity to meet each of you before you purchase your bottle, we’ve gone to the trouble of making one in ten of our bottles open anti-clockwise.
