Hawthorn’s is produced at a distillery that has been in operation since the early 1900s. Our Master Distiller has 50 years’ experience, so we know Hawthorn’s is made by the best. Our base spirit is derived from quadruple distilled 100% English wheat. We steep our botanicals in our century-old copper pot still for 24 hours to ensure the essential oils that sit just beneath the surface of the skin, peel or berry seeds are all released. The fabric of a gin is, after all, woven by its botanicals. Every batch of Hawthorn’s is a single batch and once finished it will have been distilled five times.
Awards :
Hawthorn’s is as well decorated as the man who inspired it. It has just won a Gold Medal for the third year running at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Over three years we have beaten a huge field of gins, including Hendrick’s, Sipsmith, Martin Miller’s, Beefeater and Bulldog.

Hawthorn’s Recipe
As a well-travelled naval officer, Skip experimented with botanicals from all around the world.
In our interpretation of his recipe we have tracked down each of them.
- Macedonia is landlocked, but Skip discovered their juniper berries, which thrive in the country’s harsh winters and hot summers.
- In Seville, he collected the peel of their world-famous sweet oranges (and lemons!).
- To this he added orris – the root of the iris plant for floral sweetness.
- Angelica for balance and, if he could find it, some liquorice.
- Our coriander seeds are from Bulgaria. They have a lemony citrus flavour when crushed and are commonly used as a spice in cooking.
- Cassia bark comes from the same family as cinnamon but has a higher oil content and a stronger flavour. Ours comes from Indonesia.
- Cinnamon bark from the Seychelles adds a little extra spice.
- Nutmeg adds a further sweetness to Hawthorn’s and these seeds are shipped all the way from Sri Lanka.
