Old Pulteney 25 Year, for a quarter of a century, casks of this rare expression of Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky breathed the invigorating sea air of the Caithness coast. Sheltered from a fast-changing world by the darkened calm of a distillery warehouse, the spirit mellowed at its own steady pace, echoing the reassuring rhythm of its hometown port. Aged firstly in American oak, its spicy sweetness was later granted depth and colour by casks of Spanish oak. Elegant and charismatic, this wonderful whisky embodies both Wick’s spirit of endurance and Pulteney Distillery’s devotion to its craft.

History
Old Pulteney Distillery is located in the far north of the Scottish mainland. Wick is an area rich in maritime history, once known for its herring fisheries, and the distillery's opening coincided with this boom in the fishing trade. The fishing industry all but died out there, but the distillery has long endured. Fun fact: the shape of the bottle with the bulbous neck is a reflection of the unique stills, which are missing the traditional "swan neck" because they were too tall for the original still house. This single malt is matured entirely in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, mostly second-fill.
Tasting Note
Nose: The smell of the new 25-year-old Pulteney is characterized by an enormously sweet maltiness. And yes, the second key also comes with a few wax notes. The sea surf and herbal notes (rosemary, thyme) remain present.
Palate: The herbs and a light salt spray mist follow later. Also this Pulteney is characterized by a very nice clarity in the flavor presentation
Finish: In the finish, this 25-year-old malt turns from the bourbon vanilla and sherry notes to the thyme, marjoram and sea beach flavors. Very full and pleasant.
