Old Virginia Original Bourbon Whiskey (700 ml)

Contrary to popular opinion, Bourbon Whiskey does not have to be made in Kentucky. It can be produced in any state in the US, but the hard water found in Kentucky makes it an ideal location - the limestone filters out impurities such as iron.

Whiskey must be made with a recipe (named "mash bill") of at least 51% corn, with the rest being rye, wheat and barley. Almost all bourbons are first distilled in Column Still, and then undergo a second distillation in Copper Pot Still.

Bourbon Whiskey can only be aged in virgin oak barrels that have been charred beforehand. It must mature for at least two years.

Kentucky's warmer temperatures mean that evaporation rates are much higher, so that bourbon matures much faster than its Scottish equivalent - about twice as fast.
