This homemade pastis is Tropezian from one end of the bottle to the other: between the label with the town's colours and its ingredients from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, it breathes the good life in the sun, with a pétanque ball and a pastis in hand!
Pastis and pétanque, an art of living in the sun
Both playful and modern, this new generation pastis is associated with pétanque, the other great tradition of the village, and more particularly with its Place des Lices.
An association which makes one of the particularities of the bottle: the cork-cochonet! Not forgetting its name, 12/12 as in twelve to twelve, the famous match ball, when two teams are neck and neck to win the game which is played in 13 points.
Tasting notes
- Luminous coppery colour, veiled
- Powerful nose, rich with liquorice, star anise, candied fruit, thyme, rosemary and incense
- Well-balanced palate: a powerful, full-bodied pastis with a nice character but with a hint of peach and fresh fig jam
- Fresh, tangy finish with light touches of almonds
Extraordinary bottles
An extraordinary Pastis, an extraordinary bottle! Pastis 12/12 combines a vintage glass decanter with a contemporary design.
The shape of the bottle is a direct and sincere tribute to the history of pastis, reminiscent of the decanters of the 1950s, which were and still are part of the pastis service ritual.
Their decorations are contemporary, engraved in the glass in chromography as the traditions of the sweet life are in the village of Saint-Tropez. They were created by an artist and childhood friend of the creators of Pastis 12/12, Quentin Monge. He has chosen to depict the ideal course of a beautiful summer afternoon on the Saint-Tropez peninsula:
- "Siesta in the garden", in the luxuriant vegetation of the Côte d'Azur,
- "Bronzette à Pampelonne", emblematic beach of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez,
- "Pétanque Place des Lices", time to mingle with the strongest local traditions.
Renewed every year, these illustrations offer a collector's dimension to the carafes of Pastis 12/12.
Each bottle has its own cap, a cork cap topped by a detachable varnished wooden cap, exclusive to the brand and a real playful object. It is an equivocal nod to the eternal union between pastis and pétanque.
An artisanal and natural production, inspired by the past of Saint-Tropez
To develop the recipe for Pastis 12/12, the creators of the brand went to ask the village elders, those who knew the production of pastis in the backyards of the houses. Each house added its own maceration of plants and spices, harvested in the gardens and wild spaces of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, to a base of neutral alcohol, anise and liquorice.
Fig, orange blossom, myrtle and thyme were the main ingredients in these recipes. Some members of the Italian community in the village also added a little drop of amaretto to sweeten the mixture. This tradition gave birth to the Mauresque, a famous cocktail between pastis and orgeat syrup.
With their heads full of these testimonies, the partners turned to the master liquorist of Cristal Limiñana, one of the last small family and artisanal distilleries in Provence, and the oldest in Marseille, to elaborate an exclusive recipe, that of Pastis 12/12, based on plants harvested by hand in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and a hint of sweet almond.
12/12, the story of a village, the story of friends
Pastis 12/12 is a real mixture of stories, some of which have yet to be written, and that's good because Pastis, in Provencal, means mixture!
- that of its founders, a group of childhood friends from Saint-Tropez, as passionate about pétanque as they were about pastis,
- that of their elders, the first Italians of Saint-Tropez, who inspired the recipe with a touch of sweet almond, a nod to Amaretto,
- that of a meeting, on the Place des Lices, between this group of friends and the producers of spirits, during a game that was played at "12/12, match ball!
- that of a bet, to relaunch the Pastis of Saint-Tropez, 70 years after the Mont Pécoulet, and this with plants from the Gulf of Saint-Tropez!
